The hyperion cantos is a masterful piece of work.
I really believe these books are written to be read more than once. The way the stories are weaving in and out of time makes me feel like my first read was a puzzle with some of the pieces missing. I am on my first re-read, and it is even better this time. I needed the whole picture to appreciate all the parts. I recommend the same for you.
A book is always happening in the present. The words are the same, but I am changed and the story has changed with my perception.
Sometimes, I wonder if Dan Simmons is a time traveler from the future.
